Before you place your child in an RTC, you need to vist and ask some tough questions. Not every RTC is the same and you need to find the place best suited to your child and you. These questions are not comprensive, but provide a good start.
Prior to Placement
What is the philosophy or mission statement?
Do they “walk the talk” in the mission statement?
What does the program see at its strengths and limitations?
Does the program accept insurance payments and which companies have they worked with?
What does the program cost?
What licensing credentials does the program have from federal, state or private credentialing entities?
What are the credentials of the staff? What are the staffing patterns/supervision/turnover?
Have any legal actions been taken against the program, if so what were the circumstances?
What is the emphasis on treatment, academic or recreational?
What clinical staff are available, nurse, doctor on or off campus?
What are the discipline policies and how are they implemented? Please give examples such as positive peer, behavior modification, or combination.
What is the quality of the location? Physical environment?
What is the quality of life? What activities are available?
What is the daily schedule? Is there a spiritual component?
